Today we made magnet art! We used different colours of paint and some magnetic objects in a tray with a piece of paper. Then we used magnetism (and a magnet under the tray) to move the magnetic objects. It made cool shapes, details, and the paint mixed into new colours! The ball moved because it is a magnet, but we know that the paper clips moved because they are made of iron, nickel or cobalt - those are the three types of metals that are attracted to magnets.
TOMORROW IS HALLOWEEN DRESS-UP DAY AT SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ๐ป๐๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ง Srta. Bertolesi can't wait to see all of your (school appropriate, non-violent) costumes! Please remember that since we will be wearing our masks, you should not be wearing any other face coverings.
Today we distended a virtual event with an Indigenous Author, Tim Fox! He read us his story, called Napi and the Dogs. The story had some words in Blackfoot! The book is available through the Calgary Public Library ๐๐๐๐
We did an experiment in science to learn more about magnetic fields and how magnets 'stick' without tape or glue. We learned that all magnets have a magnetic field, including the earth! The stronger the magnet, the bigger the magnetic field!๐งฒ
(Sorry, no picture today because Srta. Bertolesi's laptop is refusing to receive airdrops! ๐ญ)
Tomorrow is picture retake day! All students will be allowed to get a retake done. Please let your child or Srta. Bertolesi know if you would like a retake opportunity!
Also tomorrow, we are going to attend a virtual event with Indigenous author Tim Fox. He will be telling us about his story "Napi and the Dogs." We are very excited!!!๐ฑ
Thank you to those who have started sending in cereal boxes and magnets! It is super appreciated ๐
Today we did a card stacking challenge. It was super fun and helped us learn about perseverance, which means not giving up, even when something is challenging or frustrating! Let me show you some strategies I learned for stacking cards. We learned that making a square grid shape is a stronger base than triangles! We know that we can make all kinds of things out of cards if we practice enough. ๐
Here is a video you can watch to learn how to stack cards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F6j4e1C4Zk&t=10s
Remember that tomorrow is our Library Day! Please return your library books so you can take out new ones! From now on, we will be able to take out two books in English and one in Spanish!
Today we made posters so the whole school knows that we will have a card stacking challenge this Friday!
Today we did our first science experiment! We learned about the scientific method and put it into action! You can watch our skittles science experiment (in poor quality) HERE!!!!
Please remember that there is no school on Monday. Srta. will see you all on Tuesday! Enjoy your long weekend ๐
Today we talked about how colours make us feel inside. We learned different emotions in Spanish, and made colour monsters to show how one colour makes us feel. I can tell you the colour and emotion I chose using "cuando yo veo el color _____, yo me siento _______." (when I see the colour ______, I feel _______.).
Scholastic Book Order Forms are going home today! If you are ordering books, our class code is RC514886! Using the code gives 20% of the purchase to buy new books and resources for our class :) Please note it is 100% optional.
Today we made a writing rubric to help us see how we can 'step up' our Spanish writing! I can read you these sentences and tell you how each one gets a little bit better. Our goal is to try to write level 3 or 4 sentences, but we know that we can work on getting there one step at a time! ๐๐ถ
Tomorrow is LIBRARY DAY! Please bring back your library books so that we can take out new ones!
Today students received their Raz Kids login information! They are going home in backpacks. Please learn your username and password to login at school! The website is www.kidsa-z.com
We have new math centres! Today we practiced the A and H centres so we are experts when we start our full centres next week ๐ I can explain the different centres to you!
M - meet with teacher
A - At my desk
T - Technology
H - Hands-on
With Halloween coming up, students are invited to wear costumes to school on Friday, October 29. The costumes must be worn the whole day and must be appropriate for school environment meaning no violent or inappropriate content or messaging. Accessories such as swords, guns, knives etc. should not be brought to school. COVID masks must still be worn. As a result, we ask that no other mask even if it’s a half face mask be worn to school. Due to COVID guidelines and dietary restrictions, no food should be brought to school for sharing purposes. Other non-food treats should also be not brought to school (goodie/loot bags)๐ป
The deadline to order school photos is October 15. Retakes are scheduled for October 26 & 27.
Today we learned about digraphs! We looked at the digraphs ch, kn, ph, qu, sh, th, wh, wr and we brainstormed more digraph words. It was SO FUN!
We wanted to show you (our grown-ups) our C.H.A.M.P.S. board! The finger arrows help us know what "expected" looks like during each activity, so that we can be successful! ๐ Each letter stands for a different expectation: C-conversation, H-help, A-activity, M-movement, P-participation, S-SUCCESS!!! ๐
A reminder that Friday, October 8 is a non-instruction day and Monday, October 11 is Thanksgiving, so there is no school either day for students. Classes will resume Tuesday, October 12.
Today we read a story called "Stuck" by Oliver Jeffers! We are working on our retelling skills. Let me tell you about the problem in this story. I can also tell you what a Stuck Story is!
