Today we did our Terry Fox run! We set a goal of running 100 laps around the field (as a class). We collected a popsicle stick for each lap and then did a lot of math to add up our total of... 170 LAPS!!!🏃😅 We sure were tired by the end!

Let me tell you about la cara (the face!). So far we have learned about los ojos (the eyes)👀 and las orejas (the ears)👂.
We read the story "Pancakes for Breakfast" today, but Srta. Bertolesi won't show us the end of the story! 😱 We had to write our own end to the story. I can tell you about my ending!
As the CBE has made September 30, 2021 a non-operational day (no school for students) in honor of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, students and staff are asked to wear their orange shirt on Friday, October 1.
Students will participate in the Terry Fox Run cohorted in their class on Wednesday, September 29. The school will accept cash donations until Friday, October 1. Donations can also be made online. Thank you for your support!

Today we had a fun LEGO challenge! We used all the colours of the rainbow🌈. The challenge was to build something in 25 minutes using only one colour. We then presented our creations to the class en español!
We also did a lockdown drill today and police officers and the principal came into our class! 👮
Tomorrow, Thursday, September 23rd is a full day. There is no school on Friday, September 24th due to parent-teacher conferences.
Today we learned about Terry Fox! Terry Fox had cancer in his knee and so his leg was amputated. Terry Fox really wanted to run across Canada from East to West to raise money for cancer research. He started in Newfoundland and made it to Thunder Bay, Ontario. Terry Fox said, "even if I don't finish, we need others to continue. It's got to keep going without me." He wanted to set an example that would never be forgotten. This is why we do the Terry Fox Run every year.
Today we ran one lap of the school field to train for the Terry Fox Run, just like Terry did!
Today the assistant principal came to give us a math class! We learned that yesterday a volcano erupted in Spain.

Today we did a nature walk, collected parts of NEATure, and turned it into Fall art!🍂

During the morning we had a fire drill and we walked to St. Dominic's School!

January 24th Update
The Dalhousie Parent Society is once again working towards getting our school a new playground. With our current playground at its end of life, we have hit the ground running. Since our children will be the ones using the new structures we want to hear from them! Here is a simple survey that we would like the parents to take a few minutes to sit down with their children to fill out. Please fill out a survey for EACH student you currently have enrolled at the school. Every voice counts and the more feedback we get the easier it will be to work on a design that everyone will love for years to come. Deadline for the survey will be January 31, 2022. So please let us know what your kids think!

January 17th Update
Pink shirt day is quickly approaching (February 23). We have designed a new Dalhousie specific T-shirt. Any donation from this fundraiser will be donated to a Calgary Anti Bullying Organization on behalf of Dalhousie School Families. This year we will be selling T-shirts and Hoodies. The T-shirts are starting at $21 (100% Polyester) and the Hoodies are starting at $37.50 (100% Cotton). We have set up the sales to go through your Healthy Hunger account so there are no pesky forms to fill out or money/cheques to send to school. Just log onto your Healthy Hunger website to order. If you require any assistance at all, please email dalhousieschoolparentsociety@gmail.com and one of us would love to help you out. The deadline to order is January 24, 2022.

The Dalhousie Parent Society has a great new way to one stop shop for fundraisers! We will be using the Healthy Hunger platform for other fundraisers besides fun lunch. No more separate form and sending money in. You can order and pay online in one step! To keep up with the fall theme of deliciousness, we have kicked off a Coco Brooks frozen food Fundraiser! Please sign in through your Healthy Hunger account, scroll to the October 21 Coco Brooks event to see all of the frozen goodies that are available! Have you tried their banana bread? It’s a show stopper! Order deadline is October 16 and pickup is October 21.

Davison Orchards will once again be providing apples, which are all handpicked into a 15 lb. box. The Order deadline is September 23, 2021 and the Apple Order pick up is October 5, 2021 at the school. Please order through this order form and send the money to school with your child.
