Thursday, January 27th

Today we did a science experiment and the title was: "The Best Insulator"

We tried 7 different materials to see which one could keep water the warmest over a period of 40 minutes. We had a tie between yarn, tissue paper and felt cloth. The temperature of the water only fell 4 degrees celsius in 40 minutes.

Tomorrow we will have a STEM folding challenge!

Please remember that there is no school on Monday, January 31st.

Wednesday, January 26th

Today we watched a Bill Nye video about heat! We learned that things that even though cold things are cold, they still have heat energy because they have molecules!

We have also been learning about the long e sound (when E says it's name)! We are looking at the vowel teams ee and ea, as well as y. We read a little story with lots of long e sounds and looked for the long e's.

Today we did a science activity called: Is It a Good Insulator? We leaned that insulators keeps things warm by stopping the flow of energy (did you know that heat is actually energy?!?!)🔥 Do you think these materials (in the picture) would be a good insulator? 🤔

Tomorrow is crazy hair day! Wear your wackiest hair styles 🙀!

We are learning about the different ways we can make a long a sound (when a says it's name)!

We have also been learning about Hot and Cold. We learned that some changes are reversible and some are not. When a solid is heated it turns into a liquid through a process called melting🔥😓. Cooling a liquid to turn it into a solid is a process called freezing🧊🥶!

Today in Spanish we were learning about "el Invierno" (winter). We made ourselves little pictionaries in our journals to help us remember the new vocabulary!

We saw that Calgary had a very low temperature but Buenos Aires was much warmer. We started our Hot 🔥 and Cold 🧊 unit in science! We started making a KWL chart (know, wonder, learned).
