Today we made magnet art! We used different colours of paint and some magnetic objects in a tray with a piece of paper. Then we used magnetism (and a magnet under the tray) to move the magnetic objects. It made cool shapes, details, and the paint mixed into new colours! The ball moved because it is a magnet, but we know that the paper clips moved because they are made of iron, nickel or cobalt - those are the three types of metals that are attracted to magnets.
TOMORROW IS HALLOWEEN DRESS-UP DAY AT SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! π»ππ¦π½π§ Srta. Bertolesi can't wait to see all of your (school appropriate, non-violent) costumes! Please remember that since we will be wearing our masks, you should not be wearing any other face coverings.
Today we distended a virtual event with an Indigenous Author, Tim Fox! He read us his story, called Napi and the Dogs. The story had some words in Blackfoot! The book is available through the Calgary Public Library ππππ
We did an experiment in science to learn more about magnetic fields and how magnets 'stick' without tape or glue. We learned that all magnets have a magnetic field, including the earth! The stronger the magnet, the bigger the magnetic field!π§²
(Sorry, no picture today because Srta. Bertolesi's laptop is refusing to receive airdrops! π)
Tomorrow is picture retake day! All students will be allowed to get a retake done. Please let your child or Srta. Bertolesi know if you would like a retake opportunity!
Also tomorrow, we are going to attend a virtual event with Indigenous author Tim Fox. He will be telling us about his story "Napi and the Dogs." We are very excited!!!π±
Thank you to those who have started sending in cereal boxes and magnets! It is super appreciated π
Today we did a card stacking challenge. It was super fun and helped us learn about perseverance, which means not giving up, even when something is challenging or frustrating! Let me show you some strategies I learned for stacking cards. We learned that making a square grid shape is a stronger base than triangles! We know that we can make all kinds of things out of cards if we practice enough. π
Here is a video you can watch to learn how to stack cards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F6j4e1C4Zk&t=10s
