Today we started a graph about the weather in Calgary and Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is what it looks like after the first day!
Rapid Test Kits are going home today. Each student will be taking their own home. If your child was not able to take it home today, and you have not arranged a pickup with the office, please let srta. Bertolesi know!
Today we learned about a new math centre we are going to be doing. We have addition questions all over the classroom. Black questions are addition without regrouping. Red questions are with regrouping and blue questions (like the one in the picture below) are challenge questions! They have more addends or sums greater than 100. During M.A.T.H. centres, we will get to find questions that feel appropriately challenging and work on solving them (showing our thinking, of course!)
Today we also started a graph to show the daily high and low temperature of Calgary and Buenos Aires!
Tomorrow is library day! Please return any library books if you want to take out new ones.
This is the time of year when we begin planning next school year’s organization, especially in terms of our enrollment and student population projections. Please indicate below whether or not you anticipate that your child/ren will attend Dalhousie School again next year. We realize that plans may change over time and would ask you to kindly let the office know in these cases, so that we may staff with accurate numbers. If you have more than one child at Dalhousie, please fill out one form for each child for current Kindergarten to Grade 4. A separate form will be sent out for students currently in Grade 5. Please have this form completed by January 28, 2022.
On Friday, January 21, we will have our Crazy Hair Spirit Day. Come to school with your best hair creations!
Today we practiced writing SUPER sentences! A complete sentence has a naming part and a telling part, an uppercase and punctuation. A SUPER sentence has adjectives and answers some of the 5Ws!

Today we got to draw the whale for our Nova Scotia oceanscape!
We also worked on building and identifying complete sentences. A complete sentence starts with an uppercase letter. It has a telling part (verb) and a naming part (noun) and it ends with punctuation!

Today we drew a seal in our Nova Scotia Oceanscape drawing! We are excited to see what we will get to draw tomorrow! 🐋?!🐢?!
We also made a picture out of base 10 blocks (unidades, decenas and centenas). Tomorrow we are going to count and add up all of the blocks to see how many ones our drawings are made up of!
We also started a graph to see if students in our class prefer guantes (gloves) or mitones (mittens)!

Today we started a drawing of a Nova Scotia oceanscape by drawing a lobster! We also did a gallery walk so that we could see each other's cute and unique lobsters. All of our lobsters look adorable! We needed to consider how big we wanted the lobster to be in our final drawing, especially in relation to the other (very large) animals we will be drawing! 🦞
We also started a pencil challenge today! Every student got a pencil with their name on it. Any students who still have their pencil with no more than one black dot on the name tag (a black dot means it was lost and found) by the end of February will get a prize! 😱✎
